Most of us grow up with dreams of becoming a hero. We idolize superheroes who save lives and are sad that we do not have superpowers ourselves.

If you live in a first world country, you do have a superpower. You have the ability to help some of the poorest people in the world stay alive and healthy. You have the power to save lives of children. You have the power to bring water to people dying of thirst. The most amazing part? You don’t even have to sacrifice your lifestyle to do this. You don’t have to give half of your salary or sell your house to save lives. A donation as small as $4 per year can save lives. How? Here’s how.

People don’t have water, food, or medicine

There are many parts of the world where people do not have water, food, or medicine. It isn’t just a question of the resources not being affordable to them – there is no food, water, or medicine around them to buy. While we live luxurious lives and get to choose between the hundreds of different drink choices in our supermarkets, these people do not even have clean water to drink.

Why your help matters

You may be wondering how just a few dollars per year can make this much of a change. The answer is that these areas are so poverty stricken that a dollar can feed a family. The prices there of things are so low, because everyone around is so poor, that the few dollars you give can make a life or death difference for people.

You may not feel a hero after donating $10, because to you that may be just what you earn in one hour. However, you will definitely be the hero of a family which will now be able to eat for a whole week. You will be a hero to the family that now has water so their children do not starve. You will be a hero to someone who is dying of a disease which cheap medicine can fix because your money brought it for them.
